Canada's six-month housing starts trend rose slightly by 0.5% to 258,010 units in May 2026, while actual monthly starts fell 5.2% year-over-year to 22,633 units in population centers over 10,000. Total starts dropped 6% from April to 261,377 units. Year-to-date starts increased 3%, led by gains in British Columbia and Ontario. Montreal saw an 18% rise, while Vancouver and Toronto declined.
